Co-pilot praised after helping load luggage on flight at Manchester Airport

‘Not all heroes wear capes, some pilots wear high-vis’

A co-pilot has been praised by passengers after he was seen loading luggage to help get a severely delayed airplane ‘on its way’ at Manchester Airport.

Passenger Jenny Cook took to Twitter to to implore travel agency TUI to get the pilot, known only as Simon, ‘an excellence award’ after he was seen helping baggage handlers with the heavy lifting yesterday.

Her tweet read: “Please RT @TUIUK @TUIGroup can we get Simon the co pilot of the TOM2744 flying from Manchester on 30th May an excellence award?

“He is out on the tarmac in the rain helping to load the bags to try and get us on our way after 30 hours delay so far.”

Footage shared in response to Jenny’s tweet showed Simon donning a TUI hi-vis vest and hauling luggage onto the conveyor-belt alongside one baggage handler, who appeared to have been tasked with the job alone. 

Simon was reportedly cheered and applauded by passengers on the flight, who had reportedly been waiting thirty hours for their flight to Crete to depart, due to delays.

Jenny shared an update a few hours later to say that they had landed and ‘whizzed through’ Heraklion Airport, noting ‘what a different experience over here’. 

Manchester Airport yesterday said it was ‘aware of the challenges being faced by a number of airlines and handling agents’ in a statement issued to passengers planning on travelling in the coming weeks.

The statement continued: “Airlines and their ground handlers are responsible for their own check-in and baggage handling services. Passengers are advised to direct any questions or concerns about these issues, or anything relating to their flight, to their airline, who will be best placed to respond.

“However, this is not the experience we want passengers to have at Manchester Airport, and we are sorry to hear customers have faced disruption.”

The airport went on to say they are in contact with the senior management teams of the affected airlines, and are working to understand the cause of the problems and how best to find a solution.

They continued: “Our colleagues are on hand in the terminal to provide assistance to customers and we are working hard to ensure security waiting times are as quick as possible.

“It remains our advice that passengers should arrive three hours before their flight and to be as prepared as they can be for their journey through the airport.”

A popular Lake District beauty spot has come under fire for having ‘too much water’ in a bizarre TripAdvisor review.

The town of Keswick is a popular spot for walkers and hikers thanks to its close proximity to  the scenic Derwent Water Lake, and boasts a five star rating on TripAdvisor.

The reviews are glowing, with one person saying it is their ‘favourite lake in the whole national park’ and another gushing over the ‘delightful’ and ‘stunning’ local town.

However, it seems that not every visitor is so easily impressed by the town, with one man recently leaving a scathing review for a number of peculiar reasons.

The unimpressed tourist, known as Jim Jones on the site, was clearly not a fan of the lake itself, with him criticising the amount of water in the area.

His review reads: “There was too much water for my liking not enough free Wi-fi. Thought the place was a bit boring [sic] too many ducks.”

Though this isn’t the first time a nature spot has come under fire for its lack of modern facilities; earlier this year, a hiker slammed Skiddaw – one of England’s highest peaks – as a ‘weak and poorly developed visitor attraction’.

Writing on TripAdvisor – because where else? – the woman compared Skiddaw to Snowdon in Wales, saying it was ‘too high and steep’ to walk up.

She wrote: “Snowdon has a funicular railway to carry people to the summit. At Snowdon summit there is an excellent visitor centre with the full range of facilities – and the whole operation attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors per year.

“Ascending to the summit of Skiddaw is an exhausting experience on the basis that the only means to get up there is to walk.

“It is just too high and too steep for most people. How can the Lake District National Park people expect people to go up there?”

England’s tallest peak, too high and steep? Surely not…

The bedding range has been hailed as a ‘must have’ for summer by satisfied customers, with one five-star review on the Aldi website reading: “This bedding is a game changer. It feels amazing and is definitely cooler than any other set I own.”

Another person wrote: “Does exactly as advertised, perfect for the warmer weather, also have the quilt designed for it and have never been so comfortable while sleeping.”

And bedding isn’t the only summer essential Aldi has unveiled recently; last month, shoppers were very excited to find a frozen drinks maker down the famed middle aisle.

The nifty Ambiano Frozen Drinks Maker is perfect for both children and adults alike, and can make a range of frozen beverages, both soft and alcoholic alike. 

Aldi’s description of the device reads: “Cool down when the sun comes out with this Ambiano Frozen Drinks Maker. Craft your own cool concoctions such as slushies, iced lattes, punches or cocktails with this must-have machine.”

Dogs can even be removed from their owners care in extreme cases

Dog owners have been warned that they could face fines of up to £1,000 if their pets become a noise nuisance  with their barking.

While occasional barking is a given when owning a dog, if the noise becomes an issue for neighbours, the responsible owner could be slapped with penalty notices and fines as high as £1,000.

According to the Government’s guidance, councils are legally obliged to investigate claims regarding noise.

For noise to count as a ‘statutory nuisance’, it must ‘unreasonably and substantially’ interfere with the use or enjoyment of a home or other premises, or must injure or be likely to injure health.

If a report is made to the council about a dog, the owner will be given a week to try and aid the problem. If they fail to do this, however, they could be handed a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to £110.

They will be prosecuted if they fail to pay the Fixed Penalty Notice or fail to find the money on time, and will even face conviction and a fine of £1,000.

In extreme cases, dogs can even be removed from its owners care if the barking is considered to be excessive.

Earlier this year, a woman in Derby had her dog removed and was fined after neighbours endured months of the animal barking and howling throughout the night.

A Derby Homes report revealed that the RSPCA was forced to take action against the dog owner after the problems became so serious it caused neighbours’ mental health and wellbeing to suffer, with the matter reaching the courts.
